Man Is The Bastard - Thoughtless...

Gravity, 1995, CD, White vinyl, picture disc

"Power Violence" with 2basses. 2 singers. no guitar. drums... this is the extreme end of the spectrum. "Songs" are mainly sludgy concoctions with some fast parts thrown in and various noises and effects for added buzz. Some tracks are pure noise. You really have to be in the right frame of mind for this. I wouldn't put it on at a party or buy it a girlfriend for Christmas. You can probably get into this more if you keep listening it and go and see such a thing live. They tried to pioneer a new sound here without guitars but I'm not sure about it. The lyrics deal with the terribleness of it all and are very political - just looking at the inlay could send a society person off the deep end.

A final point to note is that they have a side-project called "Bastard Noise". I managed to get hold of this once and it was packaged in a specially printed envelope with instructions inside about how to make some noise-generating equipment. This was all well and good but then I got home one day to find my mother had decided to clean my room and thought that I didn't need the packaging of this, throwing it away. No fancy envelope that the whole job was meant to stay in, no noise instructions, just left with the CD in a case. Horror.
