Poison The Well - The Opposite Of December

Good Life, 1999, CD

Florida band with their second record. The sound has moved on from the first EP which was more raw and less well produced. Really they got a particular mix together here that makes the thing sound more precise and measured. It reminds me of the classic record that Fear Factory released in 1995 "Demanufacture". It reminds me of that sound. Fans of that record will appreciate this. It still has the fire of the first EP but it just sounds more accomplished and tighter. Tracks like "Sliced Paper Wrists" and "Nerdy" cut like a blowtorch.
Really they never reached such heights after this as their style broadened and became weaker as a result, despite more varied musicality. I don't care if some kids born after 1990 think that their later records are better, this has always set the standard for the whole genre of what is now a festering mass of scene kids and idiots in makeup.
