Palehorse - Secrets Within Secrets

Martyr, 2005, CD

This is probably the most metallic sounding band on Bridge Nine ( infact it says that on the Bridge Nine site ) and so it's not really old school hardcore, more this type of east-coast hardcore or metalcore that bands like Hatebreed and Madball have made popular.

There is also another band called Palehorse that is some brutal powerviolence from the UK, but this is not that band that we are discussing here.

What they play is very much in the style of Hatebreed, who are also from Connecticut.

It's like this mosh-thuggery-beatdown-metallic-hardcore. The riffs are influenced by thrash metal rather than death metal as some metalcore is. Some folks who are new to all this will think it's one big pot of brutal hotheads playing heavy metal but really there is a difference in these styles. Certainly the vocals sound like other west-coast hardcore bands like Madball and Living Hell in this rasping style of shouting with some gang-vocal backups. They are as good and as inflamed as you will find in a band like this.

Really they play very well and it's technical and brutal but also very simple and to the point as these kind of bands should be. The beatdown on the 4th track "The Deed" is classic stuff and there is great momentum built up throughout the 5 tracks on here.

Definately fans of hard east-coast hardcore/metalcore will like this and realise that Palehorse is a band to be reckoned with alongside all the other brutal east-coast bands.
