For The Love of - In Consequence

Ferret, 1999, CD, 10" Vinyl, 10" Red Vinyl

You might consider New Jersey's For The Love Of to be one of the pionners of the metalcore sound that emerged in the late 90s. They just seemed to take the metallic hardcore style a lot further, adding in chaotic and melodic elements along with the usual pulverising riffs and crushing rhythms. The vocals in particular are screamed so intensely as to be noticeable heavier than 90% of other bands of that, or any other time. The songs have a real good groove to them aswell, with accomplished songwriting rather than the chaotic ad-hoc approaches of some of their contemporaries. Likewise the production is good, although not great. Track 3 "Saturate" is a hilight. Fans of Nora, early Dillinger Escape Plan, Drowningman and all that sound will enjoy this record if they can find it.
