Hopeless - Human

Trial And Error, 2009, 7", Digital

This is a real interesting thing from Melbourne, Australia. 5 tracks of real good heavy, emotional hardcore.

So this is like some kind of modern hardcore for the most part, with real heavy sounding guitars with plenty of distortion and richness, influenced by all the usual stuff, but I also hear some Swedish bands in there like Section8 and Raised Fist, and also the UK band The Legacy.

As the first track hints at greatness with slow to mid tempo epic sounding heaviness, the second track "Warehouse" reaches greatness as they layer some melody over the top of the heavy chords and the screams. If the whole thing came together like this throughout it could take over, but at times it dips off and then veers into something else that doesn't feel as necessary. The vocals also sound too muddied and quiet in the mix, but for a debut this is awesome, like a lot lot better than many things I have come across since 2007.
