In The Clear - Leave This City In Flames

Dead And Gone, 1999, CD, Vinyl

Old-school youthcrew hardcore from this English band. Members went on to bands The Last Chance and Sworn In. Back when this was on the go it was pretty good stuff as there was nothing in the UK practically that was any good. Bands from the US would always come over and blow everyone away.

The songs are mainly short 1-2 minute affairs with lyrics about straight edge but there are also some tracks with clean instrumental parts. In particular track 7 has a sublime instrumental that shows the band's versatility, which is often non-existent in this genre, and adds texture to the record.

All the songs are well-written and form a good impression. The production could be better as it sounds too thin and trebly but not as bad as some records in this era and in this genre.

Mainly for fans of Mouthpiece, Chain of Strength, Turning Point etc, but also for folks who want to hear a piece of UK hardcore history.
