Saetia - A Retrospective

Level Plane, 2001, CD, Vinyl

A decent compilation of tracks from this screamo band that is no more. 72 minutes of material, including a handful of live tracks.

The music itself oscillates between quiet, clean, whimsical melodic passages to distorted, heavier sections with screamed vocals. It has nothing to do with death metal and so we are not talking about that style of band that became popular in the last 10 years. This takes its influences from bands like Cap N Jazz, Mineral, Christie Front Drive and various other low-key recordings. It sounds like a lot of European bands from around that time. The production isn't big at all, not this fat production that some of these bands have recently, more lo-fi and a bit messy with vocals pretty low in the mix. Some people will really enjoy this whereas for others it will not be what they expected and they will have to trade it in for some modern metalcore frenzy.
