Down - NOLA

EastWest, 1995, CD, Vinyl

I can remember when this came out and there was some article in Metal Hammer about them. People were pretty buzzed by it, just the thought of members of Pantera, Crowbar and Corrosion Of Conformity making some sick southern record.

Even now many years later it's a decent listen. Many bands from that time just sound ridiculous or old but this has a good groove to it. They seemed to combine good elements of their other bands to produce this dark Southern heavy rock record. It won't blow anyone away probably but it's a solid record with some good songs that fans of most heavy guitar music will be able to get into and appreciate.

Specifically I like this business where they combine some heavy fat low-end riff with some harmonised lead part like on the opener Temptations Wings. It gives a good depth to it whereas a lot of rock and roll bands can be flat and predictable.
